Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Punjab government wants to hold local bodies elections as soon as possible and consultation process is continuing in the party for this purpose. He said that revolutionary changes are being brought about in the new local bodies system to ensure devolution of power to the lowest level.
He was presiding over a high level meeting to review the draft law of new local bodies system at Model Town. Provincial Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Raja Ishfaq Sarwar, Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan, Ch. Muhammad Shafique, Member National Assembly Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Secretary, Advisor Azmul Haq and concerned provincial secretaries were present. Shahbaz Sharif said that draft law of the new local bodies system will soon be given a final shape and will be discussed in detail in the Assembly so that more positive proposals could come forth. He said that the promise to hold early local bodies election will be honoured at any cost. A briefing was also given by Local Government Department regarding the draft law of the new local bodies system.
