Lahore: The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) on Thursday said decision of the government to jack up General Sales Tax (GST) on sale of CNG by nine per cent is unjust and unilateral.
Stakeholders were not taken into confidence regarding the decision to upward revise the GST on Compressed Natural Gas which came as a great surprise, said Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, Chairman Supreme Council APCNGA.
In a statement issued here today, he said that all the gas consuming sectors including majority of the other sectors were paying 17 per cent GST while CNG which is already most taxed sector is being made to pay increased taxes.
He said that the procedure to collect GST needs to be improved as the CNG operators have been denied adjustment of GST on purchases like diesel and electricity.
Ghiyas Paracha said that the decision will increase the retail price of the CNG which will hurt 3.5 million motorists using CNG and eighty million masses that avail economical transportation facility on daily basis.
He said that CNG sector is heavily taxed but it is being denied provision of natural gas to run operations which is height of injustice.
The decision will hurt the interests of millions of people are put at stake investments in the CNG sector at stake, he warned.
Some influential elements are bent upon bankrupting CNG station owners to deprive masses of economical fuel and realise plot to import costly liquid gasses, said Paracha.
