Lahore: A spokesman of Women Development Department Punjab has said that Punjab government has taken comprehensive measures for the development and welfare of the women in the new financial year budget. He said that working women hostels will be set up in all tehsils of the province while an additional sum of one billion rupees has been allocated for the welfare of the women therefore the news item appearing in a section of press that women have been ignored in the new budget, is misleading and contrary to the facts.
The spokesman said that a sum of one billion fifty crore has been earmarked in the budget for stipends in various government departments for internship programme under which 50 percent representation has been given to women. He said that the ratio of women in self employment scheme for the jobless skilled persons is 33 percent and a huge amount of three billion rupees has been allocated for this scheme in the new budget.
The spokesman informed that Rs 300 million have been earmarked for the new initiatives for the women development while 300 million for various women welfare projects (block allocation). He further informed that about ten million rupees have been allocated in the budget which will be utilized for providing facilities in working women hostels in Lahore, Vehari, Muzaffargarh and Rahim Yar Khan.
