Munawar Hasan lashes govt.over second increase in the electricity tariff

Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has strongly condemned the second increase in the electricity tariff within a few days, and said this would cause another wave of price hike and add to the miseries of the masses.

Commenting on the NEPRA decision, he said the step was linked with the new government’s efforts to secure a huge loan from the IMF following the footsteps of the outgoing regime.

He said that the high electricity tariff had already ruined the country’s industry and agriculture and led to price spiral and unemployment.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that the PML(N) leadership’s election promises to end dependence on foreign loans had proved hollow as the government was approaching the IMF and the World bank for 5 billion dollars and was ready to accept their stringent terms.

He said that unfortunately, the policy makers of the country were in the grip of the international financial institutions controlled by Zionists who did not want this country to stand on its own feet. Our governments sought financial help from the institutions which were responsible for the economic destruction of the country, he added.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that every government had been adding the tax burden on the poor people instead of cutting its spending. It was a paradox that more loans were secured to pay off the loan installments.

He said that the country could not attain economic stability without abolishing the interest based financial system.
