Lahore Bar Association has announced not to go on strike in order to arrest huge backlog of cases, mitigate sufferings of the litigant public and ensure speedy dispensation of justice. Condemning locking of courts, it has also resolved to further strengthen the Bar and Bench relations.
These decisions were announced in a press conference held by the President LBA along with all the office bearers at Aiwan-e-Adl here today. This the first cabinet of the bar who have taken such a realistic decision and reiterated that it was the job of the political parties and governments to hold strikes on national issues like Burma and drone attacks. Advocates community has also gone on strikes on such issues. However, we understand that due to lawyers strike thousands of cases fixed before courts remain unheard and adjourned sans any proceeding. As a result people coming to courts in hope of getting justice return disappointed and accused persons as well as witnesses to cases also feel inconvenience.
The Bar body announced that in future the advocates will not observe strikes and if it becomes inevitable to boycott courts, it will be a symbolic one and the court work will not be disrupted. President of the Bar revealed that he had held detailed parleys with the judiciary in a very pleasant and enviable atmosphere. He maintained that Bar has always tried to create good relations with the Bench and we will take more concrete steps for further improving cordial atmosphere in courts. He said that during dialogue with superior judiciary we have been encouraged to pin point corrupt and dishonest judicial officers with solid proofs. Proper disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against them by the competent authority, he further said. President of the Bar also announced that country was passing through a critical stage and present state of affairs demand that there should be no void between Bench and the Bar so that people may get justice at their doorstep.
