Uninterrupted supply of CNG to consumers will put incidents to an end: APCNGA

Lahore:  The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) on Tuesday said no incidence of CNG cylinder blast ever took place in the country.

Scarcity of CNG forces drivers to use alternate fuel in unsafe manner which paves way for incidents, it said.

There is no law in Pakistan barring fixation of CNG cylinder below seat and that uninterrupted supply of CNG to consumers will put incidents to an end, said Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, Chairman Supreme Council APCNGA.

He said that law ensuring quality fitting of CNG kits is there and APCNGA has been acting on its plan to ensure international level safety standards but it pace is not satisfactory due to official inertia.

CNG installation in vehicles shouldn’t be blamed for incidents and people are invoking law against CNG sector because of opaque information, he said.

Ghiyas Paracha transport sector is being closed on the pretext of Gujrat incident despite the fact that reports of provincial departments, police, district administrations, Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan and Ogra clearly indicate that no approved cylinder has ever blasted.

Different departments are blaming others for their incompetence while those who invested heavily in CNG and transport sector are being pushed to wall so that they can grease the palms of officials.

The leader of the CNG sector said that we have invested tens of millions over the last ten years for development of a state-of-the-art checking system but government would never allow it to be executed.

Similarly, he said, we have provided Rs 20 million to government to create awareness among masses but to no avail.

APCNGA can check and ensure international safety standards in all the commercial vehicles of country within six months in case government departments cooperate, he claimed.  Closure of unauthorised workshops can improve safety situation.
