Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has called upon the Election Commission to announce re-polling in Karachi and Hyderabad to restore its image in the eyes of the nation and the world community.
Talking to different delegations at Mansoora on Tuesday, he said there was irrefutable evidence of rigging and bogus voting at polling stations in the port city, and the ECP could not convince the masses that the elections had been fair, free and transparent.
He pointed out that the ballot papers counted at some polling stations were up to four times of the total number of registered votes there which was a mockery or elections, he added.
Syed Munawar Hasan also urged the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of the massive rigging in the elections in Karachi and direct the ECP for repelling in Karachi to end the unrest among the people there and to enable them to choose their representatives in a free and peaceful atmosphere.
He said the Election Commission did not need any other evidence in the presence of footages of voting on gun point and the eye opening reports of the international observers. He said the local and foreign observers had been stunned on the fantastic turn out in Karachi.
The JI Ameer termed as ridiculous and shameful the Chief Election Commissioner’s remarks that the three or four times polling indicated the massive public interest in the elections. Instead of rubbing salt on the wounds of the people, the ECP should try to restore its image.
He said the ECP could not even provide protection to its staff and all the political parties were in protest against the rigging and bogus polling in Karachi, adding that at most of the polling stations, the duties of the Presiding Officers were performed by the MQM men.
