Lahore: Caretaker Home Minister, Tariq Pervaiz has said that there is an effective coordination between administration, police and judiciary regarding election 2013 due to which satisfactory arrangements have been made for this purpose. He said that in accordance with instructions of Election Commission, comprehensive planning has been made for security, appointment of polling staff and transportation of electoral equipment to all the divisions of the province and cabinet committee during its visit to divisional headquarters, has reviewed the arrangements in this regard. He expressed these views while addressing a press conference following a meeting regarding election arrangements at Gujranwala,today. IG Police Punjab Aftab Sultan, Secretary Home Punjab Shahid Khan, Commissioner Gujranwala Division Tariq Najeeb Najmi, RPO Gujranwala Khuda Bakhsh Malik and all DCOs and DPOs of the division attended the meeting. Commissioner Gujranwala Division and RPO gave a briefing regarding election arrangements and law and order respectively.
The Home Minister said that while making election arrangements special attention has been paid to ensuring implementation of code of conduct of Election Commission and law and order. He said that security of election equipment and polling staff will be ensured on May 10 and 11 while indiscriminate action is being taken on violation of code of conduct. He said it is worth mentioning that number of violations of code of conduct was higher at the beginning of election campaign but now a gradual decrease is being witnessed due to effective vigilance and timely action by administration and police. He said that divisional and district officers have held meetings with political leadership and it is worth mentioning that candidates have shown a positive attitude.
Tariq Pervaiz said that incidents of terrorism have reduced in Punjab but despite this security agencies are vigilant. He said that special arrangements have been made for checking incidents of terrorism, protection of possible targets and relief activities in case of any attack. He said that counter terrorism plan has been evolved in every district. He said that no one would be allowed to disrupt law and order on election day and cameras would be installed especially at sensitive polling stations besides administration would be able to call army and Rangers in case of need.
