Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hassan, has stressed that the election must be held on the 11th of May under all circumstances and army deployed at the polling stations on a large scale to prevent bloodshed and to ensure peaceful polling.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said that delay of the elections even for a single day was not acceptable as such a step would cause serious threats to the country’s existence. He said that although the situation in different parts of the country, especially Karachi, Balochistan and Khyber P was alarming, yet elections were the sole way to put the things in order as only an elected government could resolve the issues confronting the nation and the country.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that anti state forces working on the agenda of their foreign masters, were causing bomb blasts and suicide bombings in order to create anarchy and civil war situation in the country. The bloody events during the last week had created a situation of uncertainty in the country due to which apprehensions of postponement of elections had risen in the minds of the people. In such a situation, the care taker government and the Election Commission should adopt such solid measures to restore law and order as were visible and the masses also believed that.
He also urged the nation and the national institutions to join hands for foiling the designs of the enemies of Pakistan and democracy.

The JI Ameer reiterated his demand to the care taker government to convene an All Parties Conference (APC ) in the present poor law and order situation and to work out a line of action to overcome the same.

He noted that the law and order situation was so alarming in Balochistan that the Election staff in eleven districts had declined to perform election duty , and the situation in Karachi was the same. Therefore, he said, the deployment of the army on the polling stations was essential to provide protection to the voters and the Election staff and to ensure fair, free and peaceful polling.
