Lahore: Justice (R) Mr. Justice Syed Jamshed Ali took charge of the office of Director General of Punjab Judicial Academy, today. Former DG, Justice (R) Tanveer Ahmad Khan and Rana Arif, Deputy Director, briefed him about the affairs of the Academy.
Syed Mushtaq Ali, father of Justice Jamshed, had the privilege of being Standing Council for Pakistan Muslim League. Justice Jamshed Shah started law practice from Multan in 1964. He passed West Pakistan Competition Examinations (now CSS) in 1969 and served as Magistrate at Narowal, Shakkargarh and Sialkot. Later on, he remained Deputy Secretary in Board of Revenue for five years. He also served as Assistant Commissioner Sheikhupura and AC (G) to Commissioner. He resigned from Govt. job in 1979 to join lawyer profession again.
He was elevated as Judge of Lahore High Court in 1998. During this stint, he also remained member of Syndicate for Govt. College University, University of Education and University of the Punjab. He was elevated to Supreme Court in 2005 and retired in 2008. Recently, he headed a three member commission formed to investigate billions of rupees of loans written off over the past four decades.
Now Hon’ble Chief Justice of Lahore High Court has requisitioned his services as DG Punjab Judicial Academy in order to hone the judgment writing skills of the judges of district judiciary of the province. He carries a rich experience in this field being a judge of initial level to the apex court.
