Lahore: Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights, Afrasiab Khattak, has said the constitution ensures equal rights to people belonging to different religions in the country.
Talking to the media during his visit to Joseph Colony,
Badami Bagh, on Friday, he said that all people were equal
before the law and Islam gives a message of peace, tolerance and
patience.He said that such incidents should not take place as they
harm peace in society. He said the committee would make
recommendations and ensure that such incidents do not take place in future.Severe punishment will be awarded to the accused, he added. He also paid tribute to the administration which tried its best to mantain peace and did not let the situation worsen.
Senators Farhatullah Babar and Mushahid Ullah Khan
condemned the incident and said that steps should be taken for
promotion of interfaith harmony.
Religious scholars can play an effective role in this
regard, they added.

Abdul Khabeer Azad, Mufti Bilal Naqshbandi, Senator Kamran
Michael and others were also present.
