Lahore: The Provincial Zakat Council has granted approval to Rs. one billion, four crore, 75 lakh and 2411, for the guzara allowance of the blind persons, deserving persons and educational stipends of religious seminaries and general educational institutions. The Provincial Zakat Council has also directed that the amount should immediately be provided to the District Zakat Committees.
This was decided in a meeting of Provincial Zakat Council, held under the Chairmanship of Provincial Secretary Zakat and Ushr Jehanzeb Khan. Administrator Zakat Muhammad Yousaf Butt, Members Council Hafiz Fazal Rahim Ashrafi, Maulana Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Hafiz Zubair Ahmed Zaheer, Khawaja Abdul Qayyum, Tayyiba Zameer and officers of Finance, Social Welfare and Local Government departments were also present.
The Provincial Zakat Council has granted approval to Rs. 16 crore for guzara allowance of blind persons, while Rs. 74 crore 33 lakh 93200 have been approved for the guzara allowance of zakat deserving persons. For educational scholarships pertaining to the years 2012-13, an amount of four crore and 41 lakh 57487 has been approved for 2305 deserving girl and boy students studying in 199 religions seminaries, in 18 districts, while an amount of nine crore and 99 lakh 51724 rupees has been approved for the 70354 deserving boy and girl students, studying in 1747 educational institutions, in 29 districts of the province. The Provincial Zakat Council has further directed that the approved amount should be handed over to District Zakat Committees immediately, for distribution.
