EC cannot be independent sans administrative powers: Ch Shujat Hussain

Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League President Senator Ch Shujaat Hussain has said that it is meaningless to call the Election Commission independent sans administrative powers, Chief Election Commissioner should have full administrative powers in Pakistan like India so that nobody raise a finger on the credibility of general elections held under him.

The former Prime Minister in a statement issued here today said that according to prevailing procedure, the Chief Election Commissioner in Pakistan cannot issue administrative order even to a District Police Officer what to talk about the Chief Secretary and I.G. Police and if at all the Chief Election Commissioner issues any order, there is no procedure for its implementation.

He said that because of this we want that the Chief Election Commissioner should have full administrative powers to ensure holding of free, fair and transparent elections and nobody gets the opportunity to complain about it afterwards.
