Lahore: Federal Minister for Inforamtion and Boradcasating Qamar Zaman Kaira Monday called upon the masses to beware of the political parties entering into alliance with extremist-minded political outfits in the upcoming general election to rival the political parties, which want to rid the country of extremism and terrorism.

To a query, Kaira said Pakistan was faced with the menace of terrorism for a long period of time, adding that the terrorists were still capable of causing explosions. He said, “the government has
been taking all out measures to defeat them but it takes time.”
Regarding the recent Karachi terrorist attacks, the information minister said that the general election would be held at all cost
what may come.
Kaira dispelled the impression that the government played second fiddle to the world powers in the war against terror, adding that PPP-led government supported the war against terror only
to make Pakistan a safe place.
Regrading Iran- Pakistan Gas Pipeline Kaira said, the government had decided to undertake the project in the larger interest of the country, adding it was not against any country or its interest. He said that Prresidnet Asif Ali Zardari would inaugurate the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project on March 11, along with his Iranian counterpart.
The minister expressed the hope that the gas pipeline project
would usher in a new era of development in the region and help
Pakistan meet its energy needs, as electricity could also be
generatated with the gas. Kaira said that PPP along with its allies
would go to the voters in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Baluchistan
and Sindh, expressing the hope that PPP would bag the elections.
To a query, Kaira said that general election would be free,
fair and transparent, adding that PPP had always formed government
in the country whenever free and fair election were held.Regarding Gwadar port project, he said Gwadar port project had been entrusted with a Chinese company, adding that it would bring prosperity to the people.Regarding transparency international, Kaira said that
its credibility was not above board, saying transparency international had entered into differenct contracts with the Punjab government.About the Metro Bus Service, Kaira said the Punjab government would have to give billions of rupees subsidy to run the
project. He asked if all the traffic in Lahore plied from Shahdra to Gajumata only and added, “Has Metro Bus Project resolved all problems in Punjab ?”
Regarding the presence of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi activists in Punjab, Kaira said law and order was responsibility of the Punajb government and it should take action against the terrorists.

adding the PPP government had provided unprecedented freedom
and rights to the media men. He called upon the mediamen to strengthen democracy and play their role in the supremacy of law in the country. He also said the government would soon announce Journalist Victim Fund for the media men, who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Regarding the wage board award, he said the government has appointed chairman of the 8th Wage Board Award, urging the media bodies to nominate members at the earliest.
