Metro bus fare would be charged from Monday

Lahore: Punjab government has decided to charge fare of Metro Bus service from the passengers from February 18 (Monday). The flat fare of Metro Bus service has been fixed at Rs.20 from Gajjumata to Shahdarah.

This was decided at a meeting of Steering Committee of Metro Bus Authority presided over by Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif at Model Town, today. Chairman Lahore Transport Company Khawaja Ahmed Hassaan, Member National Assembly Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, Members Provincial Assembly, Managing Director Punjab Metro Bus Authority, Secretary Home, Secretary Information, Acting IG Police Punjab, Commissioner Lahore, Director General LDA and other concerned officials attended the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that people are benefiting from the comfortable, affordable and safe transport facilities of splendid metro bus project. He said that affordable fare of metro bus has been fixed for the convenience of the people and the passengers traveling from Gajjumata to Shahdarah will have to pay only Rs20 as fare. He said that Rs.20 will be charged as fare from the passengers to any bus stop from Gajjumata to Shahdarah.

The Chief Minister said that after launching of metro bus system, Pakistan has been included in the few countries of the world where modern transport facilities are available. He said that warm welcome extended by the citizens to the comfortable and rapid bus service of international standard is unprecedented. He said that Punjab government, keeping in view the public welfare, has completed this project in a very transparent manner and speedily. He said that metro bus system completed in the provincial metropolis has been greatly appreciated at local and international level whereas authorities of Turkey from where we have got inspiration for launching metro bus project have also expressed their astonishment and joy over the completion of metro bus project in such a short period in Punjab and termed it an excellent achievement of Punjab government.

No doubt, it is an honour for Punjab government and the people, he added. Shahbaz Sharif said if leadership is determined and intention is good then most difficult task become easier. He said that after the completion of metro bus system now its maintenance is important and we will have to protect this asset in the public interest as a living nation. The Chief Minister said that the people should prove to be civilized citizens while travelling as metro bus system is a precious asset. He said that the encouragement and confidence of the people in metro bus system is an honour for us.

Shahbaz Sharif said that metro buses have been plied for common man and their protection and look after is also responsibility of the people. He said that demonstrating discipline is utmost essential for fully benefiting from the travelling facilities of international standard. He disclosed that assembly members are available at every bus station for the guidance of passengers. He warned that strict action would be taken against those damaging public property. He said that discipline will have to be demonstrated while travelling after the introduction of new culture of transport.
