Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the responsibility of the present crises in the country lay not with the Al-Qaida, but with the prevailing disorganized system, especially the distraction of the political parties from their own constitutions and manifestoes.
Most of the political parties talked of democracy but did not act upon their code of ethics and every party had turned into a family concern and hereditary, he said, while
addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, at which he announced the names of the newly elected members of the JI Shoora.
Liaqat Baloch said that military and civil bureaucracy had interfered in the country’s politics only because of the weaknesses of the political parties as these institutions were more powerful than the disorganized governments.
The JI Secretary general said that the foremost serious issue of the country at present was to protect the present constitution. He said the JI firmly believed that no one could e allowed to adopt any supra constitution step in the present situation.
He said that the situation in Karachi and Balochsitan was being worsened under a plan and in order to deprive the masses of their right to vote. However, he assured the people that no one would be permitted to do that.
He said that all the opposition parties would hold a sit in on February four, at Karachi to stress for the implementation of the Supreme Court orders for the fresh demarcation of constituencies and verification of voters lists.
Liaqat Baloch said that despite its serious reservation regarding President Zardari, the JI did not want to make any demands at this moment that could delay the elections.
He said the ruling alliance in Sindh comprising the PPP, the MQM and the ANP had created a situation in which the masses would take them to account, and not allow corrupt people to power again.
He said the JI would present within a few days, the list of its nominees for the interim set up including the Prime Minister, the Chief Ministers, to the Leader of the Opposition,. Ch. Nisar Ali Khan.
Liaqat Baloch said the JI was the only party that acted on its constitution and manifesto, in which elections were held regularly. All of its office bearers from top to bottom were duly elected and every one of them was loyal to the party constitution. In the JI, decisions were taken not by an individual but by the elected Shoora (Consultative body).
