Islamabad: In a high level party meeting the president of Pakistan Muslim League Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that the alliance with Pakistan Peoples’ Party will stay intact and next election will be contested after having seat adjustment with Pakistan Peoples’ Party.
They made clear that Pakistan Muslim League will not agree to any other electoral symbol and will contest the election using “bicycle” as a symbol. It was said in the meeting that some irresponsible elements in Pakistan Peoples’ Party are bent upon sabotaging the alliance and the Pakistan Peoples’ Party must take stern action against them. The two leaders stressed the necessity of timely election for the country and democracy and said that the general election should not in any case be delayed or postponed.
PML Federal Minister of Pakistan Muslim League Advisors, members of the national and four provincial assemblies, party leaders in Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, ticket holders, former District Nazims, and representative of different wings of Pakistan Muslim League attended the meeting. In his address Chaudhry Shujat Hussain said that electoral reforms are necessary before the general election. All the political parties except N-League have reservations on Election Commission and these reservations must be addressed to the satisfaction of all political stack holders before the election.
While speaking to the gathering Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi clarified that the election commission was unable to avoid rigging from the recent bye-election despite the timely information that was provided to the election commission above apprehension of rigging. He said that before the bi-election the Punjab govt. managed postal ballot from all provincial government employees in its favour and indulged in pre-poll rigging. He said that the complaints of Pakistan Muslim League regarding the rigging of election were not paid heed to. He said that Pakistan Muslim League listened to the demands of millions of people in Hazara and south Punjab and Pakistan Muslim League was the first political party that supported the demand at every forum. He said that Pakistan Muslim League left a dream legacy of development in Punjab which will not be emulated by any other leader. Pakistan Muslim League Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed said that Pakistan Muslim League has distinct role in the politics of Pakistan as it believes in the politics of issues and the people of Pakistan support Pakistan Muslim League after judging its performance in the previous terms. He said that political parties of Pakistan should develop national consensus on important issues like economy, energy, law and order and education and carve long term policies on these issues. He said that Pakistan Muslim League will not allow anyone to steal its mandate.
Among the members who addressed the gathering included President Pakistan Muslim League KPK Syed Qasim Shah, General Secretary Pakistan Muslim League Sindh Haleem Adil Sheikh, Finance Minister of Baluchistan Asim Kurd Ghelo, Federal Minister Sheikh Waqas Akram, Nauman Langriyal, Talib Nakai, Pakistan Muslim League leaders Rehman Naseer, Ali Asjad Malhi, Dr. Khalid Ranjha, Mohammad Shah Khagga, Dr. Azeem-ud-Din Lakhwi and the son of Chairman Sunni Ittehad Council Mohammad Hamid Raza.
Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Moonis Elahi, Anwar Ali Cheema, Jam Mohammad Yousaf, Chaudhry Zaheer ud Din, Liaqat Abbas Bhatti, Sardar Bahadar Khan Saihar, Maj. (r) Tahir Sadiq, Tariq Bashir Cheema, Syed Dilawar Abbas were also present in the meeting.
