17 people died due to Tyno syrup in Gujjranwala:Spokesman

Lahore: A spokesman of District Government Gujranwala has said that action is being taken for the recovery of sub-standard cough syrup from the medical stores.

He said that teams comprising district administration, health department and police today checked 442 medical stores, 9324 cough syrups were seized after recovery from 123 medial stores while 19 stores were sealed. The spokesman further said that 61 patients affected by cough syrup were admitted to DHQ Hospital so far, out of which, 17 were referred to Lahore, 15 were discharged after treatment and the number of those died in the hospital is 17.

He said that seven persons were brought to the hospital in dead condition and causes of their death are still to be determined. He said that five affected patients are still under treatment in DHQ Hospital. The spokesman further said that action would be continued against those manufacturing and selling spurious medicines.
