Lahore: Jamaat e Islami Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the demands put forth by Dr Tahirul Qadri on Sunday were ill timed, and contradictory. and has been presented at a time when the country was heading towards elections.
Commenting on the Dr Qadri’s address here on Sunday, he said, in one breath, Dr Tahiru Qadri was saying that he did not want postponement of the elections, while in the other, he had given a dead line of January 14 for implementation of the constitution and paving the way for a neat and clean leadership, or else he would stage a Long March to Islamabad.
The JI leader asked Dr Qadri how the judiciary could bring forth a clean leadership prior to the elections. Besides, he said, who and in what manner, someone could take a decision which was the prerogative of the peoples elected government and the parliament alone.
Liaqat Baloch said that the JI had been in the forefront of the demand for implementation of the rules laid down in the constitution concerning the eligibility of the candidates.He called for immediate announcement of an agreed caretaker government and the election schedule, adding that the JI wont support delay in the polls.
