Zardari’s statement, salt on the people’ wounds:Munawar Hassan

Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has
said that President Zardari’s statement that in case the PPP got another five year term, it would carry the country forward, was a crude joke and amounted to sprinkling salt on the people’s wounds.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, he said in fact, the PPP government was the most failed government in the country’s history which gave to the nation nothing except corruption, lawlessness and destruction in every sphere. He challenged President Zardari to list the achievements of his government and the steps taken for the peoples welfare and prosperity, national honour and stability, which it would be carrying forward.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that the government of the PPP and its allies had disappointed the masses completely. During this period, the country was further driven into terrorism, lawlessness, price hike, unemployment, and the energy crises deepened further. An unprecedented load shedding of electricity and gas had gripped the country, that had done irreparable damage to the national economy. Thousands of industrial units had been closed and millions of workers rendered jobless, suicides were on the rise.

Corruption was on the increase and according to the NAB Chairman, about 13 billions rupees were being plundered daily. The foreign loans had doubled during the current regime. The country was suffering from anarchy while Karachi suffered from target killings and extortion, and the murderers enjoyed the blessings of the rulers. The common many was being grilled through undue taxes on utility bills. The rulers were publicly insulting the judiciary and the judges.

He said the borders were insecure, drone attacks were a routine in which more than 40,000 innocent citizens had been killed. The country was being isolated at the international level, and according to the latest news, as much as 2 and a half billion dollars had been illegally transferred abroad during the last ten years. The Pak-Iran gas pipeline project appeared to be wound up under the US pressure.
Such was the record of the Zardari regime and it was time that PPP leadership understood the ground realities and tried to mend its ways, he added.
