lahore:Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab on Health, Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that Punjab government has taken concrete steps for the promotion of medical education in the province and another medical college is being set up in Bhakkar namely Thal Medical College, Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has approved the setting up of new medical college.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said that Secretary Health has constituted a committee to make functional the proposed medical college where classes would be commenced from the new academic year 2013-14. He further said that the said committee shall prepare a feasibility report in this regard.
He said that the committee would identifying a public building in district Bhakkar where medical college would be set up temporarily. Moreover, this committee will also identify an adequate piece of land for the construction of new building on war-footing basis for the said medical college. He said that the committee shall prepare an economical design for construction of the building to be adopted in order to ensure early provision of fitness and completion within the specified timeline.
Khawaja Salman Rafique disclosed that Prof. Dr. Javed Akram Advisor on Medical Education Health Department is the convener of the committee while Medical Superintendent Mayo Hospital Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, DCO and EDO Health Bhakkar and Chief Planning Officer Health Department are the members of the committee. Khawaja Salman Rafique said that PML-N government has established five medical colleges in Sialkot, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Lahore where the educational activities have been started. He informed that Government Amir-ud-Din Medical College PGMI Lahore would start MBBS classes from 1st January 2013. He said that sixth new medical college in Bhakkar is being established where the classes would start from academic year 2013
