Lahore: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) has responded to 33242 emergencies of different natures and rescued 45878 victims during the month of November, 2012.
While carrying out the monthly performance review, the Director General, Punjab Emergency Service Dr. Rizwan Naseer said that a comprehensive strategy should be adopted to reduce road traffic crashes, as mostly victims of these accidents lost their lives due to negligence of driver, fault in vehicle or road. He said the Rescue 1122 has taken several initiatives for the education of public pertaining to these accidents and the community safety program of the Service was playing pivotal role in creating awareness. The recent initiative of “Helmet for All” is an also important milestone towards ensuring safety of the motorcyclists, as in first phase Rescue 1122 distributed 200 helmets among media men, families of rescuers and general public and the strategy was underway for initiating second phase.
Rescue’s DG said, “The Service has effectively responded to different natures of emergencies including 12929 traffic crashes, 18376 medical emergencies, 554 fire cases and 30 buildings collapse during last month, while maintaining its average response time of seven minutes”. Dr. Rizwan Naseer has also requested to the masses to call only in case of major accidents and critical emergencies so that misuse of emergency resources could be prevented.
The emergency calls to which Rescue 1122 responded include 12929 Road Traffic Accidents, 18376 Medical emergencies, 554 Fire incidents, and 30 Building Collapse incidents, 1165 Crime, 49 Drowning Incidents, 129 Special Rescue Operations and 10 Explosions.
These 33242 rescue operations in the month of November, 2012 includes 6699 rescue operations in Lahore, 3091 in Faisalabad, 2639 in Multan, 2375 in Gujranwala, 1174 in Bahawalpur, 1096 in Rawalpindi, 1096 in Dera Ghazi Khan, 1052 in Sargodha, 667 in Rahim Yar Khan, 1220 in Sahiwal, 955 in Sialkot, 259 in Murree, 1108 in Jhang, 446 in Toba Tek Singh, 538 in Muzafargarh, 467 in Rajanpur, 406 in Mianwali, 457 in Pakpattan, 476 in Kasur, 433 in Gujrat, 468 in Bahawalnagar, 327 in Jehlum, 587 in Attock, 613 in Khanewal, 350 in Vehari, 262 in Chakwal, 524 in Okara, 411 in Hafizabad, 594 in Sheikhupura, 520 in Lodhran, 298 in Nankana Sahib, 297 in Khushab, 274 in Mandibaha-ud-din, 395 in Narowal, 327 in Layyah and 341 in Bhakkar.
