Lahore: Advisor to Chief Minister, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that Punjab government wants to economically empower women and for this purpose, multipurpose planning is being made in educational and political sectors.
She said this while addressing an introductory seminar under the aegis of “Aawaz and Ehtisab” programme at a local hotel, here today. The seminar was arranged jointly by Aurat Foundation, South Asia Partnership and Pakistan for common progress. Representatives of civil society from 26 districts, members provincial assembly, representatives of media and lawyers attended the seminar in large numbers.
While addressing the seminar, Secretary Women Development Punjab, Irum Bokhari threw light on the women package and said that Punjab government has evolved a comprehensive policy for the welfare of women which is being implemented speedily.
Chief Guest, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz appreciated the organizations working for the development of women and said that vision of our government is to empower women so that they could enjoy all the rights and play their role on political platform. She also stressed upon the need to ensure transparent utilization and distribution of the funds. The seminar was also addressed by Ejaz Ahmad Aulakh, Irfan Mufti, Khawar Mumtaz, Arifa Khalid, MPA Dr. Saeed Elahi, Naeem Mirza, Naseer Memon, Dr. Musarrat Hassan, Haris Khaleeq and Mumtaz Mughal.
Later, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz also attended the concluding ceremony of a 3-day workshop as chief guest, held under the aegis of Pakistan Press Foundation at a local hotel. She appreciated the efforts of NGOs and media regarding human rights and distributed certificates among participants of the workshop.
