Paternity leave is a part of women package: Secretary Women Development Punjab

Lahore: Secretary Women Development Punjab, Irum Bokhari has said that granting of one week’s paternity leave twice with pay to male government servants at the birth of their children is a part of implementation of women package which will directly benefit women.

She was talking to various representative delegations of women associations at her office in Johar Town today. Irum Bokhari said that the Punjab government, as per its vision, wants to give social, economic and legal protection to women at every level. She said that in the past, women had to face numerous problems after giving birth to a child because male government servants were not allowed to avail leave with pays. She said that keeping in view the welfare of women, the Punjab government has decided to grant one week’s leave with pay twice during service to male government servants so that they could be able to help their wives to take care of their newly-born babies. Irum Bokhari said that government will continue to give priority to the welfare of women in future as well.

The women appreciated this step of the government and thanked the Chief Minister Punjab. They said that giving social, economic and legal protection to women is a commendable step and the women from every walk of life would benefit from this decision.
