Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif visited various routes of metro bus project from Gajumatta Ferozepur Road to Niazi Chowk early in the morning today and reviewed the pace of construction work in detail. The Chief Minister was also took briefings about the pace of work on different sections of the project while he directed the authorities concerned and the contractors to further accelerate the pace of construction work so that this splendid public-welfare project could be completed at the earliest. Member Provincial Assembly Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmed, Project Director Metro Bus, Commissioner Lahore Division, Director General LDA, District Coordination Officer Lahore and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said that Metro Bus Project is a glorious programme of public interest which will result in provision of modern, comfortable and affordable transport facilities to the masses and their temporary difficulties will soon change into permanent relief. He warned that no delay will be tolerated in the implementation of Metro Bus Project. Issuing instructions for further expediting the work on the project, he said that the construction work should be completed as soon as possible. He said that special attention should be paid to the quality of construction material and resolving the problems of the people during the execution of the project. He directed that underground drain from Gajumatta to Youhanabad should be completed at the earliest and construction work should also continue during Eid holidays. The Chief Minister also inspected the bus depot for Metro Bus Service and directed the Project Director and contractor that a mosque should also be constructed in the building of the bus depot while the project should be completed within timeframe. The Chief Minister directed the authorities concerned to ensure coordination between different departments for expediting construction work on various routes. He said that the process of shifting of electricity pools on the routes of the bus service should also be completed at the earliest. The Chief Minister also visited the elevated sections of the project and directed that the work should continue on these sections round the clock. He said that all out resources are being utilized on the execution of this glorious project of public service and it is hoped that it will soon be completed.
Later presiding over a meeting at the site office of Metro Bus Project at Niazi Chowk, the Chief Minister directed that construction work on the project should not come to a halt at any stage. He directed that the shifting of construction material for the project should be accelerated while this process should also continue in the daytime alongwith the night. He said that proper planning should be made for the construction work and transportation of construction material during Eid holidays. The Chief Minister sought recommendations in this regard within two days and said that every moment is precious and a strategy should be evolved in the light of the future needs without wastage of time. He said that he fully realizes the problems of the people who have displayed extreme patience so far. He said that traffic should not be stopped unless extremely necessary. He said that public awareness should be promoted regarding alternative traffic routes and a system should be evolved for giving prior information to the people regarding alternative traffic routes and besides displaying banners and flexes on the roads an awareness campaign should also be launched on media. He said that all facilities will be provided to the contractors of the project. Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmed MPA, Commissioner Lahore division, DG LDA, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board and contractors of Metro Bus Project were present on the occasion.
