Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Central Information Secretary, Shafqat Mahmood strongly condemns Wednesday’s and today’s drone strikes in North Waziristan and holds that the attacks are unacceptable as they cause tremendous collateral damage and are in strict violation of human rights. The first drone strike after PTI’s march against the CIA programme killed at least five people in North Waziristan Agency and today’s strike killed six people and injured four children. It was not immediately ascertained whether any key militants were among the killed. The drone attacks have become a grave threat and a serious challenge to the existence and survival of Pakistan. The US authorities say that the drone attacks are a part of the global war on terror but in fact the drones are increasing terrorism instead of curbing it.
The government continuously claims that the drone strikes violate its sovereignty and are counter- productive but the fact of the matter is that they have not been able to take any substantial steps to put an end to this injustice. PTI has managed to bring together people of Fata and the common people of Pakistan and has managed to highlight the menace of drones that have killed innocent people, maimed thousands and displaced hundreds of thousands. The affect of these attacks is that an entire region is being terrorized and people’s way of life is collapsing. Pakistani civilians are being “terrorized” and “traumatized.” Through the Anti-drone peace march PTI has spread a message of peace across Pakistan, besides, enabling the World to see the massive destruction caused by the drone attacks in Pakistani tribal areas. Pakistan needs to put an end to the drone strikes and build a consensus against the US drone policies.
