Lahore: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) has commemorated the 7th anniversary of disastrous Earthquake of 2005 in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority and PDMA. In this regard awareness activities were carried out in all 36 Districts of Punjab in response of declaration of NDMA to mark the day as “National Disaster Awareness Day”.
The rescue vehicles fleet March and Urban Search & Rescue Simulation Exercise was organized here at Emergency Services Academy in this regard. The District Offices of Rescue Service also arranged awareness activities which include awareness seminars, workshops and other activities for general public and rescuers.
Addressing the rescuers on this occasion, the Director General Dr. Rizwan Naseer said that although Rescue 1122 has rescued over 1.5 millions victims of emergencies and also managed over 3000 incidents of building collapse. However, public awareness and community participation is essential to prevent emergencies and for becoming a disaster resilient nation.
Dr. Rizwan requested media personnel to play their role for awareness of disaster preparedness amongst citizens so that measures of disaster mitigation can be ensured at community level. He also requested dwellers of walled city to ensure building & fire safety measures to save their lives.
