President Zardari to asks UN for anti-blasphemy legislation: Sumsam

Sahiwal: President Asif Ali Zardari will be the first among the leaders of Islamic countries, who will demand of the United Nations Organisation (UNO) for anti-blasphemy legislation.

This was stated by Minister of State for Information Syed Sumsam Ali Bokhari while addressing a Mushaira organised by the Divisional Press Club here on Saturday. The Club’s President Rana Masood Ahmed Advocate was also present on this occasion.

Sumsam Bokhari said that the freedom of expression meant ensuring dignity and respect of all prophets, religions and faiths.Love for Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the only way to success in this world and hereafter, he said and added that all the Muslims irrespective of caste and sect, must get united to protect the honour of the beloved Prophet (PBUH) and Islam.

He also called for strict action against the makers of the sacrilegious movie, as well as an effective legislation at international level to stop such acts aimed at degrading any religion and faith.”We not only deem it the essence of our faith but also a pride for us to lay down our lives for the honour of our Holy Prophet
(Peace Be Upon Him),” he added.

Sumsam Bokhari also paid tribute to the Pakistani nation for observing the Youm-e-Ishq-e-Rasool (PBUH) and also urged them to register their protest and anger in this regard but in a peaceful manner. He said that the government by declaring the Youm-e-
Ishq-e-Rasool (PBUH) at this critical juncture had shown solidarity with the Muslim world. “We want to give a message to the international community that Islam is the religion of peace, and the disrespect of the prophets and supreme personality of any religion is altogether an inhuman and immoral act. Therefore, the international community must play its role in curbing such anti-human acts in future to maintain the world peace.”
