Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has given approval to use the bank of DG Khan Canal as flood protection bund for saving DG Khan city from flood of Rodh Kohi on permanent basis. He said that 13 km long bank of DG Khan Canal will be widened to 25 feet and raised further 3 feet.
This was stated by Commissioner DG Khan Tariq Mehmood in a meeting held to review the situation of flood-hit areas. He said that Punjab government is taking immediate measures for resolution of problems being faced by the flood affectees besides providing eatables and medical facilities to the homeless persons. He said that Mithawan Bridge at Khichi Canal, affected by flood water, has been fill with earth and opened for traffic temporarily. He said that dewatering pumps are being used for draining out rainwater from low lying areas. He informed that as per directive of the Chief Minister, Secretaries of various departments are personally monitoring the relief activities.
