President Pakistan Muslim League-N, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif met a delegation of ulema representing various schools of thought in Gilgit today. Talking to the members of the delegation, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that people of Pakistan are saddened at the situation prevailing in Gilgit as innocent people are being killed, and it is incumbent upon the government to unveil the hands behind these disruptive activities.
He said Gilgit-Baltistan used to be a happy and peaceful region of Pakistan, where there was no crime. But, he said, human lives are no longer safe and people are living under constant fear and threat and no one is satisfied with the situation. He said it is responsibility of the government to expose the hidden hands behind criminal activities. He said the writ of the government is nowhere, Hazara community, teachers, government servants and other innocent people are being killed but the government is doing nothing and not arresting the culprits which is lamentable. He said the government should restore peace in Gilgit-Baltistan, which favored Pakistan against the Dogra Raj but the people of this region are no longer safe.
Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that he and his party are prepared to play their due role in restoration of peace and he presents himself voluntarily for this purpose. He said the representatives of federal government should come to Gilgit and should not leave the place until there is complete peace and tranquility in the area. He said government should perform its duty of maintaining peace and law and order in this area. He said President, Prime Minister and Federal Home Minister should remain present in Gilgit till the situation becomes normal.
He said establishment of Masjid Board is a good step in restoration of peace and directed the office- bearers and workers of PML-N to play their vigorous role in restoration of peace and harmony. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that we all believe in one God and one Prophet, therefore we would have to give peace and safety to each other and respect the sentiments and feelings of other people. The members of delegation of ulema of various schools of thought who met Muhammad Nawaz Sharif included Bilal Shah, Maulana Habib Ullah, Allama Fida Ali, Raja Nisar Ali, Muzaffar Abbas as well as a large number of representative ulema of Ahle- Sunnah and Ahle-Tashih.
