Lahore: Secretary Women Development Department Punjab Irum Bukhari conducted surprise inspection of Working Women Hostel at Gujranwala on Friday August 31, 2012 to observe anti dengue campaign activities. The Secretary who was accompanied by Director Women Development Punjab, inspected residential cubicles, lounges, grassy plots and roof tops of the hostel building to ensure that no waste material or debris was lying around. While speaking on the occasion, Irum Bukhari emphasized upon the need for social mobilization and advocacy to prevent and control dengue cases in the province. She said that dengue was a seasonal disease, which could be controlled by creating awareness among the people. She reminded the officials, staff and residents of Working Women Hostel that Sunday, September 2 shall be observed in the length and breadth of the province as Anti- Dengue Day. She stated that the newly established Women Development Department was arranging activities on daily basis during the campaign in all districts of the province, whereas special events had been planned for Anti-Dengue Day on September 2, 2012, to create awareness on the issue to eliminate dengue virus. Seminars, walks and dissemination of mass awareness material are the highlights of these scheduled events occurring simultaneously in the provincial head office and districts.
The Secretary who also holds the portfolio of Project Director GRAP, later visited Gender Support Unit in the office of Gender Reform Action Plan, Gujranwala. Gender Specialist GRAP briefed the Secretary about week-long events being conducted by Women Development Department in the district as part of anti-dengue drive. The Secretary informed the officers that like last Sunday all Women Development Department Offices shall remain open and functional on next Sunday September 2, in spite of weekly holiday. All offices shall conduct special cleanliness campaign on Anti-Dengue Day in compliance of orders of Chief Minister Punjab.
