PML-N believes in supremacy of law: Nawaz Sharif

Lahore: President Pakistan Muslim League-N Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that PML-N believes in supremacy of law and complete independence of judiciary and it has played historic role along with lawyers, civil society and media for restoration of judges. Nawaz Sharif said that PML-N takes decisions keeping in view the interest of the nation and the country instead of personal interests. He expressed these views during a meeting with a representative delegation of Supreme Court Bar Association led by its president Yasin Azad. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that the conference arranged by Supreme Court Bar Association in Islamabad on May 26, 2012 for resolving the problems of Balochistan was a very positive step and he fully support Supreme Court Bar Association in its struggle for resolving Balochistan problems. He said that the sense of deprivation prevailing in Balochistan will have to be removed for the stability of the country. He said that bringing the people and leaders of Balochistan to national mainstream is guarantee of a stable and strong Pakistan and PML-N is in touch with Baloch leaders in this regard.

Muhammad Nawaz Sharif asked the Supreme Court Bar Association to submit its proposals for making the appointment of judges more transparent. He said that in the past PML-N had given a proposal that the President of Supreme Court Bar Association should be an ex-officio member of Parliamentary Committee for Appointment of Judges but Peoples Party’s government had opposed this proposal. He said that we believe in the policies of merit and transparency and decisions will have to be taken in country’s interest by rising above personal liking and disliking over this issue. He asked President Supreme Court Bar Association to submit solid proposals in this regard.

Talking on the occasion, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that lawyers have written a new history for the independence of judiciary. He said that the lawyers made unprecedented struggle for the freedom of judiciary by rendering personal and economic sacrifices. He said that the nation will have to play its role for maintaining the independence of judiciary at all costs.

President Supreme Court Bar Association Yasin Azad said that the lawyers’ community recognizes the struggle of PML-N for the independence of judiciary. He informed Nawaz Sharif that Supreme Court Bar Association is arranging another conference jointly with the local leadership of Balochistan on September 9 in Quetta so that progress could be made for resolution of Balochistan problems. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif directed the provincial leadership of PML-N Balochistan to fully participate in the conference of Supreme Court Bar Association.

On the request of Yasin Azad, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif also announced a grant of Rs.5 crore for the residential complex of lawyers. Leaders of the opposition Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Senator Rafique Rajwana, Naseer Bhutta and Anousha Rehman from PML-N side whereas Muhammad Aslam Zar, Sardar Abdul Majeed Khan, Abbas Ali, Kafayat Ullah Khan, Muhammad Habib Qureshi, Muhammad Amer Sohail, Mian Ayub, Wasim Mumtaz Malik and Talat Abbas of Supreme Court Bar Association were present during the meeting.
