Pakistani youth are highly talented : Shahbaz Sharif

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistani youth are highly talented and are proving their mettle all over the world. He said that Pakistani students who won top position in the debating contest held at international level, have done the whole nation proud. The Chief Minister also announced setting up of Chief Minister’s Debating Society within two weeks.

He was talking to the members of Pakistani debating team which won first position in the world in the debating contest, here today. Provincial Education Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Special Assistant Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Secretaries Higher Education and Schools, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board, Chairman Punjab Youth Council and the parents of the members of the debating team were also present on the occasion. The Chief Minister congratulated Pakistani debating team on its glorious success and said that the youth are the builders of the nation and are earning a good name for the country in various fields. He said that Punjab government has been regularly arranging writing and speech contests for the students for last four and a half years and cash prizes of crores of rupees have been awarded to the winners of these competitions. He said that such contests polish the talent of students and promote confidence among them. He directed that in addition to academic, co-curricular activities should also be encouraged in universities, colleges and schools and maximum essay writing and debating contests should be arranged in educational institutions. He said that debating contests between the students of the universities, colleges and schools of Punjab with that of other provinces should be arranged. Similarly, he said, such competitions between the students of Daanish Schools and other educational institutions of Punjab should also be held. He said that written and speech contests as well as debates are yielding positive results. Setting up a committee headed by Provincial Minister for Education Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, the Chief Minister directed it to arrange such contests between educational institutions of Punjab with other provinces besides taking measures for establishment of Chief Minister’s Debating Society.

It may be mentioned that 45 countries including America, South Korea, Britain, Canada and South Africa took part in PDC 2012 arranged by Idea Youth Forum Mexico and Pakistani debating team won the first position by defeating South Korean team in the final. The Chief Minister gave a cheque for five lakh rupees to Pakistani debating team on its splendid success. The Pakistani debating team comprised Azeem Liaqat of Salamat International Campus for Advanced Studies, Lahore, Ahmed Shujaan of Atchison College and Zainab Hameed of Karachi Grammar School.
