Lahore:Chairman Provincial Protection Committee for Minorities Properties, Senator Kamran Michael has stressed upon the students to pay full attention to their studies so that Pakistan could achieve a high place in the comity of nations.
He was addressing a function of giving educational scholarships to 158 minority students belonging to Lahore division at Jinnah (Town) Hall, here today. Commissioner Lahore division Jawad Rafiq, DCO Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, DCO Kasur and MPA Ch. Ghulam Nabi from Sheikhupura were also present on the occasion. Senator Kamran Michael said that Muslim League-N government is making practical efforts to include the minorities in the national mainstream and his selection as first Minority Finance Minister Punjab and Senator is proof to it which is not only an honor for the minorities but the whole nation. He said that under a phased programme, cheques of one crore and twenty lakh rupees are being given to minority students in 9 division of Punjab so that they can continue their education at every level.
Senator Kamran Michael said that despite limited resources, Punjab government is providing scholarships to minority students for the last four years. Now it is the duty of the students to come up to the expectations of their parents, teachers, the nation and the country as talented and industrious students are our identify and future, he added. He said that under the aegis of provincial department for Human Rights and Minority Affairs, technical education is being provided to minority students free of cost in order to enable them to stand on their own feet. He said that scholarships would also be given to talented minority students for higher education abroad besides allocation of seats for minority students in medical colleges is also under consideration. He congratulated the students getting scholarships as well as their parents and said that the scholarship amount will help them to meet educational expenses.
