Lahore:Founding President/Patron of Islamic Countries Society of Statistical Sciences (ISOSS) and Rector National College of Business Administration & Economics (NCBA&E), Professor Dr Munir Ahmad in his inaugural address, has proposed that Government of Pakistan should create a new cadre of Para-Statisticians who have specific qualifications for the positions. A detailed report is being prepared in this regard.
He was addressing the 9th International Conference on Statistical Sciences organized by ISOSS at NCBA&E Campus. Dr. Munir Ahmad said that in the past he proposed a number of awards for young statisticians who could not be implemented for want of responses from statisticians, adding that he is going to propose ISOSS Awards and hope that this time support will be received from all over.
The theme of this conference was “Official Statistics and its impact on Good Governance and Economy of Pakistan”. He said that Official Statistics provide a true picture of a country and is an important element of a democratic society. People have been collecting official statistics since ancient times. Hindu Veda, old testaments, and Holy Quran and other divine scriptures had been talking about people, its structure, economy and administration. Some scientific surveys had been conducted for good governance during Khalifat period.
