Lahore:Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting to review the pace of work on metro bus service project, here today. Director General LDA gave a briefing regarding pace of progress of various packages of metro bus service while the CTO informed about the traffic plan. Special Assistant Zaeem Husain Qadri, Member Provincial Assembly Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmad, Inspector General Police, Secretary Communication & Works, MD Solid Waste Management and other concerned officers were present.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that metro bus service is an important project in the history of Lahore which will result in availability of speedy transport facilities to the citizens as well as give a new identity to the provincial metropolis. He said that work on all packages of the project has been initiated simultaneously, therefore, such a road plan be evolved which should not interrupt the flow of traffic nor cause problems to the citizens. He said that work is in progress round the clock and an effective system of continuous monitoring should be devised. He said that a constant contact should be maintained with the educational institutions and traders as well as Data Darbar Committee which are on the route of the under-construction track of metro bus service from Kahna to Shahdara. Similarly, he said, effective arraignments should also be made for ambulances so that the patients could timely reach the hospitals. He said that the citizens should be informed about the traffic plan for the smooth flow of traffic and a vigorous publicity campaign should be launched on print and electronic media in this regard. He said that the bus stops should be of eye-catching design. The participants of the meeting gave their proposals regarding metro bus project and the traffic plan.
