ahore:A delegation of police officers, who had undergone anti-terrorism training in Turkey called on Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif today at Tent Office, Minar-e-Pakistan, and informed him about their training courses held in collaboration with the Turkish Police. Member Provincial Assembly Col. (R) Shuja Khanzada, Advisor Jehanzeb Burki and IG Punjab Haji Habib-ur-Rehman were present during the meeting.
Addressing the police delegation, the Chief Minister said Pakistan is facing serious challenge of terrorism, which has inflicted irreparable damage on national economy. He noted that maintenance of peace and law and order is highly essential for promotion of economic, industrial, commercial and investment activities. Chief Minister said that only a peaceful and secure society is true guarantee of rapid progress. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab government has taken effective steps for maintenance of law and order in Punjab province and elimination of terrorism, and a separate Anti Terrorism Department has been established for the purpose. He said in order to achieve targets of development latest training courses, with the collaboration of Turkish Police, are being conducted for the officers of Punjab Police to fight terrorism. Chief Minister noted that acquisition of latest technology is extremely necessary to root out the scourge of terrorism. He directed that only such police officers should be chosen for the training courses as are determined and have interest in getting latest training in the field of policing. He asked Member Provincial Assembly Col. (R) Shuja Khanzada, Advisor Jehanzeb Burki and other police officers to visit Turkey and ascertain and review all aspects of anti terrorism courses being arranged there. Chief Minister said that, after the visit of the delegation, possibility of introducing these anti-terrorism courses on the pattern of Turkey, would be considered.
Expressing their views, police officers who were trained in Turkey, pointed out that they have learned a great deal in combating terrorism in an effective manner during their training courses. They said that the Turkish anti-terrorism training model is highly efficacious which will go a long way in capacity-building of Punjab police. IG Punjab informed that as many as 17 training courses of different kind are being conducted by Punjab Police in collaboration with Turkey.
