In a joint press release issued here the, Aurat Foundation and civil society organizations have demanded the election commission and the custodian of the house to take stern action against all those male members who misbehaved with the women MPAs and used derogatory and indecent language against women including exhibiting vulgar and filthy body gestures. In spite of condemning these members of the treasury benches, some members of the ruling party supported their colleagues by thumping desk. Aurat foundation and partners organization have called upon the Election Commission and the leader of the house to take serious notice of such indecent and vulgar attitude of treasury benches members in the light of the procedures of the rule and regulation Punjab assembly in the chapter of the misconduct of the member of the house. Aurat Foundation urges the Political Parties to adopt a code of conduct to avoid such mess of harassment especially with women MPA.
Aurat Foundation also called upon the Provincial Chief Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif, Opposition Leader and Head of the Political Parties in the house to take serious notice of such incidents. Aurat Foundation and partner organization have expressed the solidarity with the Women members of the Punjab Assembly and the women parliamentarians of the Unification Block to hold Members like Sheikh Alla-ud-din accountable for their behavior towards women MPAs.
Aurat Foundation demanded that the Speaker of Punjab Assembly to arrange a training workshop for Parliamentarians and Political Parties Officials on Gender Sensitization, immediately. The Aurat Foundation also stressed that the Speaker Provincial Assembly should adopt a holistic policy for combating gender base violence and it should develop, introduce and implemented to ensure gender friendly and enabling environment in the house code of conduct and enquiry committees of Protection of Women Harassment Act 2010, and setup a center in Assembly Chamber to address the complaints of the parliamentarians.
