Lahore:A Sugarcane Research Board would be set up at Chak Jhumra to increase the production of sugarcane through modern scientific research under the supervision of PSMA.
It was decided in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Senior Advisor to CM Punjab, Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, here today at 90-Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam. Provincial Minister for Agriculture Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Mansha Ullah Butt, Chairman P&D, Secretaries Food, Agriculture, Law, and representatives of PSMA also attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that the production of sugarcane could be increased through modern research and foreign exchange could also be earned by exporting sugar. For this purpose PGMA will set up Sugarcane Research Board at Chak Jhumra and a 9-member committee will look after the matters of the Research Board. The board will comprise three official member, four representatives of sugar mill owners and two of farmers. The meeting was further informed that sugar research institutes would also be established in Faisalabad, Sargodha and Multan divisions.
