Brain tumor is a curable disease

Lahore:Brain tumor is a curable disease and all the major government hospitals in Punjab have the facility of neuro surgery, however there should be immediate steps to make up the shortage of neuro surgeons in the country.
These views were expressed by Principal PGMI & LGH Prof. Dr. Tariq Salah ud Din while talking to the media today on the eve of World Tumor Day. He said that there are two types of tumors; first primary tumor which originates from brain and second secondary tumor which starts from liver, kiddies, chest or lungs in form of cancer and then develops to brain. He said that the symptoms of tumor brain are permanent headache and vomiting. He said that due to advancements in medical science this disease is being treated easily and successfully all over the world now days. He said that this disease is also cured through radio therapy in addition to surgery. Dr. Tariq said that more advanced treatments like stereo tannic and radio surgery are also being used in Pakistan. He said that Pakistan is facing great shortage of neuro surgeons and there are only 17 professors of neuro surgery and 200 neuro surgeons available for 180 million of population.
Prof. Tariq appreciated the Punjab Chief Minister’s decision to establish Institute of Neuro Sciences at LGH and said that the Institute would provide a large range of opportunities for research and training of the doctors. He said that LGH is presently playing pivotal role in neuro surgery and victims of traffic accidents and head injuries are brought over here from all over the country, hence making this hospital a national institution. He expressed the hope that Provincial Government would take immediate steps to expedite the project of Institute of Neuro Sciences at LGH.
