Lahore:Media has played an important role for creating awareness among the people and mobilizing the society against dengue and the preventive measures have conveyed to the housewives and the workers of the factory through media. The change in the human attitude is essential for elimination of dengue and this change will be brought through the responsible role by media.
These views were expressed by various speakers addressing a seminar held in connection with eradication of dengue and social mobilization at University of Health Sciences, today. Sri Lankan experts Dr.Hasitha Tissera, Dr.Paba Palihawadana and Dr.Jayantha Weeraman,, social mobilize Punjab, Mrs. Shaista Pervaiz Malik, Director General Health Punjab Dr. Nisar Ahmed Cheema, representative of WHO Dr. Samia, Additional Director General Vector Borne Diseases, Dr. Jaffar Ilyas, Director Operations Dr. Islam Zafar, representatives of media, social workers officers of health department, EDO Health Lahore, students of University of Health Sciences and Vice Chancellor Prof. I. A. Naveed attended the seminar.
Dr. Nisar Cheema said on this occasion that the role of nurses in the treatment of dengue patients is decisive therefore there is a need to strengthen this department. He said that there is 80 per cent role of the people in the eradication of dengue and media has played important role for creating awareness among the people due to which it has greatly helped in controlling the dengue virus. He said that 29 thousand dengue cases were reported last year in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka and Thailand are fighting war against this disease for the last 40 years but the doctors and other experts of Punjab have achieved such success in one year
