Prof. Muhammad Sharif remembered at Dow University

Lahore : Former Principal of Dow Medical College and cardiology specialist, Prof. Mohammad Shareef Chaudhary had established Coronary Care Unit at Civil Hospital from which several patients gets treated. His services will always be remembered. His sad demise has left a vacant space which will never be filled again. Different speakers expressed their views in the condolence session held at Arag Auditorium, Dow University of Health Sciences.

The session was organized for eternal peace (Esaal-e-Sawab) of Prof. Shareef Chaudhary while Fatiha Khawani was also done for the departed soul.

The speakers of the session included Vice Chancellor of Dow University Prof. Mohammad Saeed Quraishy, acting Principal of Dow Medical College Prof. Abu Talib, Prof. Ilahi Bakhsh Soomro, Prof. Tipu Sultan, Dr. Azhar Farooqi, Dr. Khalida Soomro, son of Prof. Shareef Chaudhary, Hasnat Shareef and other family members.

Prof. Mohammad Saeed Quraishy said that when Dr. Shareef Chaudhary was introduced at Civil Hospital, he was in third year of his education. He worked to establish Angiography Unit there. He used to treat his patients with generosity and humbleness. He was not only a good teacher, but a competent doctor and an excellent man.

Prof. Abu Talib while expressing his views said that Prof. Chaudhary completed his MBBS from King Edward Medical University in 1952 and joined Dow University in 1963. He was a great man and used to treat his juniors with generosity and friendliness. He dedicated his whole life in serving mankind.

Former Principal of Dow Medical College, Prof. Ilahi Bakhsh Soomro said that his services for cardiology department are unforgettable. This department not only benefits the people of Karachi but also, Balochistan and Northern Punjab.

Dr. Khalida Soomro said that she has been working since 25 years under the guidance of Dr. Chaudhary and learnt a lot from him. Dr. Tipu Sultan said that he overcame even the difficult cases of cardiac treatment. He worked in cardiology when there was only an ECG machine used for monitoring heart rates and no other advanced technology.

Prof. Azhar Farooqi said that he had worked in the companionship of Prof. Chaudhary at Pakistan Cardiac Society. If we see different aspects and time periods of his life, he was a perfect man, all in all.

His son, Hasnat Shareef said that he was a great doctor, teacher and a father. When he came to civil hospital, there was only a 6 bed ward. He worked on his vision and was successful in making a cardiac unit.

Prof. Ghulam Abbas and the daughters of Prof. Chaudhary paid tribute to the departed soul at the end of the session.
