Lahore : Punjab University Department of Zoology’s Associate Professor Dr. Nadeem Sheikh is bestowed with the honour of “Zoologist of the year Award 2019” for his outstanding contributions in the field of Zoological sciences. The award was conferred on him in the opening ceremony of the 39th Pakistan Congress of Zoology held at Islamia College Peshawar.
Dr. Nadeem Sheikh did his M.Sc. (Zoology) from Punjab University in 1999 securing overall first class first position in the university. He was conferred Dr. Muzaffar Ahmad Gold Medal, Sir William Roberts Gold Medal and University of the Punjab Gold Medal for outstanding performance.
He joined PU Department of Zoology in Feb 2001 as Lecturer in Zoology. In October 2003, he was awarded scholarship by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) for higher studies leading to Ph.D. in Georg-August University, Goettingen, Germany. In 2008, he was awarded Charles Wallace trust fellowship to visit Imperial College, London for one Month.
Later in year 2009, he was awarded HEC postdoctoral fellowship to work in Brain Tumor Research Center of Harvard Medical School at Harvard University (USA).In 2015, Dr. Sheikh was awarded A.R. Shakoori Gold medal for his outstanding contribution in research in the area of Biological Sciences awarded by Zoological Society of Pakistan.
In 2016, he was appointed Director Centre for Applied Molecular Biology (CAMB), Punjab University where he worked till June 2018. Dr. Sheikh developed collaboration and linkages to various institutes nationally and internationally which lead him to bring EXPERTS (Exchange by Promoting Quality Education, Research and Training in South and South-East Asia) project for the students of the University of the Punjab and other universities of Pakistan for exchange as well as degree courses in EU Universities. His contributions for exchange and promotion of science particularly to build country’s positive image abroad are appraised and acknowledged internationally.
