The Charter of Democracy won’t do any good to the country: Senator Sirajul Haq

Lahore : Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq has said that the Charter of Democracy or any other such agreement won’t do any good to the country and the nation.

Addressing the JI central workshop at Mansoora, he said that the political parties which lacked democracy in their own ranks could not be expected to strengthen the democratic set in the country . He said the leaders of these parties were talking of democracy only to befool the people, to hide each other’s corruption and to intensify the pressure on the government.

Sirajul Haq said that the PPP, the PML(N) and the Musharraf government had failed to solve the people’s problems. He said that the present government comprised of people from the same parties and that was why it had not been able to solve the problems of the people. He said that the only option with the people  was the Jamaat e Islami which was a truly democratic party and there was  no blot of corruption on any of its leaders.

The JI chief said it was the responsibility of the government to provide proper medical cover not only to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif but to all other sick people in jails. He said that health or sickness should not be made a political issue.

Sirajul Haq said the PTI government had not been able to fulfill any one of its promises during the last seven months. There had been no legislation during this period. Instead, the parliament was witnessing shouts and allegations and counter allegations from both sides.

He said that despite financial help from Saudi Arabia, China and other friendly countries, prices were going up. The main reason was that the rulers believed themselves as all wise and did not feel the need to consult others on any issue.

Sirajul Haq said that after downing two Indian jets, the government had silently dropped a bomb of price hike on the masses. He said the government was under the impression that this step would go unnoticed because of the border situation but the people were cursing the rulers for that. The government must explain the reason of this price hike, he added.

The JI chief said it was in the government own interest to maintain the situation of unity created by the Indian aggression but there had not been any move by the government in this respect. He said the government was looking up to the US although the US had never stood by this country.

In the 1965 and 1971 wars, the US had deceived Pakistan. Despite providing the F-16s, the US laid down the condition that these could not be used against India.  He said that instead of expecting much from Washington, the rulers should trust in Allah and their own people.

Sirajul Haq said that India had banned the JI in Held Kashmir and hundreds of its workers and leaders had been jailed but the Pakistan government had remained silent.
