Lahore : Federal Minister for Information
and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Saturday said the government was concerned about the health of jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif but the opposition was doing politics on the
Prime Minister Imran Khan had already given directions to the Punjab government to provide the best treatment facilities available in the country to Nawaz Sharif as per his own choice, he said while talking to a private news channel.
He said the government had nothing to do as the former prime minister had been convicted in a corruption reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
However, it had offered him to get treatment from any hospital in the country, he added.
The minister said Nawaz Sharif could opt for plea bargain, which was allowed under the NAB law, but for that purpose he would have to request the accountability watchdog.
He said it was not possible for the government to remove the name of Nawaz Sharif from the Exit Control List (ECL) as it was bound to implement the court decision in that regard.
To a question, Fawad said Nawaz Sharif was financially a resourceful person and he could even avail the services of foreign doctors and the government would have no any objection on it.
Replying to another question, he said the government had no issue if Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari meet Nawaz Sharif to inquire after his health.
He said a sitting finance minister of the last PML-N
government had gone abroad for treatment but he was still there.
The minister said the government, all the political
parties and institutions were united and on same page on the issue of national security.
