Former judge of LHC shot dead in Gujar Khan

Lahore : Ch Mehmood Akhtar, a former judge of Lahore High Court has been shot dead in Gujar Khan on Tuesday.

Police said the former judge was on way back to Chakwal from his native town, when he reached at Tarkawal Mor near Jatli, some unknown armed attackers opened fired on his car.

As a result Ch. Mehmood died on spot while his niece Sajida received bullet injuries.

On information, the Rescue-1122 team rushed to the scene and shifted the body to Tehsil headquarters hospital, Gujar khan while the injured was shifted to district headquarters hospital Chakwal.

Police have registered a case and started investigation.

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the murder of Chaudhry Mehmood Akhtar Khan, former judge and a lawyer and sought a report from the IG police.

He directed to investigate the matter. Timely arrest of the accused should be ensured and legal action be initiated against them. Provision of justice to the bereaved family will also be ensured at every cost, he added.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain Tuesday strongly condemned the killing of Justice (R) Chaudhry Mehmood Akhtar.

In a statement, he said the accused involved in the heinous killing would be brought to justice. He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.
