PFA confiscates huge cache of expired beverages

Lahore : The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has busted a huge quantity of expired beverages worth Rs2.476 million in the market. The raid was conducted on the tip-off of PFA vigilance cell in Begum Kot area on Monday night.

Director General Food Authority Captain (R) Muhammad Usman has led the operation and directed officials to accelerate the crackdown against food adulteration mafia and food business operators who are not following the rules of the PFA Act.

According to details, PFA has discovered a huge cache of energy drinks, imported juices, chocolates, coffee beans and coffee jars. Muhammad Usman has informed that PFA has confiscated 999,960 teens of different energy drinks, 198,000 packets of juices, 122,000 packets of malt beverages, 680,000 coffee beans and 396,000 Nescafe coffee.

DG said that all expired food items had to supply on local stores in the market after changing their expiry dates. He further said that the use of expired products are injurious to health and people should check expiry dates before purchasing products especially food items.

He further said that PFA has also taken supply records in the possession and started an investigation of this matter to withdraw the material from market and strict action would be taken against the violators in the light of inquiry report.

PFA vigilance has found out site through reki of expiry beverages supply chain in the market after day and night hard work on it, he added.
