Supreme Court orders to bring back Multan courts to the earlier location

Lahore : A three member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan headed by Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising two other Hon’ble Judges i.e. Mr. Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Mr. Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan, heard Human Rights Case No.28562-P/2017 regarding action taken by HCJ on problems being faced by the Lawyers and litigant Public at New Judicial Complex, Multan.

The case was taken up today in the Court and the Hon’ble Bench while hearing the case observed that there had been complaints by Advocates and litigants about lack of basic facilities and amenities at New Judicial Complex Multan.

Therefore, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan himself visited the premises on 20.12.2017 alongwith the members of the Bar and Hon’ble Judges of the Lahore High Court present at Multan and Sessions Judge Multan to verify genuineness.

On inspection, the Hon’ble Chief Justice found a large number of deficiencies of basic facilities there.

Today, on the report submitted by Deputy Registrar of this Court on the issue, the Hon’ble Bench observed that the environment for the purpose of holding courts and administering justice was unquestionably not congenial; particularly, in the situation when there was no proper Bar-room for the lawyers.

Moreover, relocation of Court premises to the new location without availability of even the basic and necessary facilities do not coincide with the purposes of free access and safe administration of justice.

Therefore the Bench issued directions to bring back the courts from new Judicial Complex to the earlier location within 10 days from today and to shift the Special Courts which were provided space/rooms/courts in the old building to the new premises till the provision of satisfactory facilities to the lawyers and the litigant public.
