PFA set dead line of February 15 for salt processors to ensure fortification

Lahore : Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has given final deadline to all salt processors to complete the reform process as per food standards by Feb 15. Deadline was given after completing the survey report and served reforming notices to salt companies from PFA here on Monday.

In a press release, PFA said that few days ago meeting was held between PFA and office bearers of different salt processors associations under the supervision of DG PFA Noor ul Amin Mengal in this regard.

DG has directed to all salt processors to ensure the presence of Iodine mineral and other ingredients before ending the deadline. Sixty percent populations is facing food insecurity in country and lacking different nutritional ingredients. He said that we can overcome on food issues and to control the deficiency of nutrients by ensuring presence of iodine, minerals and other ingredients in salt.

Mengal said that PFA is collecting blood samples for medical screening tests of all employees which reporters are being sent to salt companies through courier. He said that PFA is also giving basic training to workers by telling to them about food business, food rules and regulations in PFA training schools.

Food safety teams have made important reforms and instructions for the improvement of the industry by visiting all the salt factories. Punjab Food Authority is not only a public friend but a business friendly for food-related businessman. After deadline ends, if any type of violation comes into view, strict action will be taken against salt processers who will not conform to PFA instructions, DG said.
