PFA will definitely reduce the foodborne diseases : Noor ul Amin

Lahore : Punjab Food Authority (PFA) will reduce the burden of foodborne diseases within next two to three years by maintaining present pace of action and ensuring implementation of PFA laws in across the Punjab. However, the ratio of caner disease is increasing in women for not breastfeeding their infants. A major number of cancer patients in the world is reported in Pakistan.

These views were expressed by Director General PFA Noor ul Amin Mengal during addressed with students at seminar on “Mother’s Milk vs Formula Milk, causes of Breast Cancer in Pakistan” at Lahore Garrison University.

Seminar was arranged by Punjab Food Authority in collaboration with Mass Communication Department of Lahore Garrison University (LGU) at varsity auditorium here on Monday. Prof of Pathology Allama Iqbal Medical College Dr Fauzia Ashraf and LGU Registrar Brig (R) Mahmood Bashir Bajwa have also addressed.

Speakers have stressed that we have need to create awareness among the youth regarding the benefits of consuming hygienic and pure food. They also laid focus upon the causes and cure of breast cancer. They have emphasized that female should have screening tests in early age in order to tackle disease of cancer in earlier stage as 85percent cancer diseases are curable. Speakers further said that foodborne diseases are the result of consumption of foodstuffs contaminated with microorganisms or chemicals. They said that people should be made aware about food ingredients and information before consumption.

Mengal has emphasized on the importance of food hygiene and upon monitoring the food mechanism. He shed light on the Formula Milk and said that PFA has been clarified their policy on it and completely imposed banned on the sale and free sampling of Formula Milk in hospital premises and its surrounding medical clinic. He said further that PFA is restricted Formula Milk companies to follow the marketing rule and regulations. He said some changes happen in the body of mother for not feeding breast milk to children after giving birth resulting in cause of cancer disease.

DG said that PFA is trying to mold the 70 years old ruined system of food into new regime for which few years require to get fruitful results, he added.

At the end, LGU Registrar has presented souvenir to guest speakers.
